40 Years of Driving Experience overuled.

Technology is supposed to make life easier. But what happens when it starts making decisions for us?

I recently upgraded from my trusty 2006 Toyota Camry (a no-frills, no-arguments workhorse) to a 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro—a car packed with sensors, AI, and opinions.

Old Car: Knew every rattle, every quirk. It adapted to me.
New Car: Monitors, warns, and occasionally… overrides me.

Then came the moment that made me pause.

The Parking Lot Revelation

A double-parked truck left a tight gap in a crowded mall lot. My 40 years of driving instinct said: “You got this.”

I eased forward.

The car stopped me cold.

No sound. No drama. Just an abrupt halt—and a flashing yellow brake light.

Turns out, the car’s algorithm had deemed my judgment too risky. My experience? Irrelevant.

The truck eventually moved, but the lesson stuck:

We’re entering an era where data overrides intuition. Where failure—a critical teacher—is increasingly designed out of the system.

The Bigger Question

Yes, AI-driven safety is progress. But at what cost?

  • When do we stop trusting our own judgment?
  • How do we learn if we’re never allowed to misjudge?
  • And who’s really in control—us, or the systems we built to assist us?

This isn’t just about cars. It’s about autonomy, adaptability, and the human edge in an algorithmic world.
